A
well-known physicist Albert Einstein expresses his view about the solution for
the economic crisis through an essay written in persuasive tone and personal
point of view. This assertion can be applied to his own studies about “events”
in space in time in terms of physics. The two passages, one about physics and
the other one about economics, help the readers to find out the correlation
between them and support his opinion.
Passage
A introduces and explains about the concept of “simultaneous”. By providing the
background knowledge about measuring time on the coordinate plane, Albert
Einstein effectively delivers the professional knowledge to the readers. He
uses objective and monotonous tone and formal, expert diction with simple
sentence structures to help the readers easily comprehend the concept he tries
to explain.
Passage
B demonstrates Albert Einstein’s view points on eliminating grave ills with
strong, convincing voice. He firmly argues about the necessity of establishment
of a socialist economy supported by an educational system oriented toward
social aims. Elaborating about the socialist economy, he introduces “planned
economy”. Furthermore, he explains more deeply about the relationship between
the socialist economy, planned economy, and educational system accompanied by
them.
As
a physicist, Einstein applies the concept of “simultaneity” to the ideal
operation of socialist economy utilized in a planned fashion. He argues in his
essay that a socialist economy is established when the means of production are
owned by the society and adjusted according to the demand of the community.
This kind of economy would contribute to distributing work and providing
livelihood to every person. It will be settled by the education of the
individual in purpose of promoting the potential and developing responsibility
to glorify the society. However, planned economy itself is not yet socialism.
It requires the enslavement of the individual. This ends in a socially and politically
difficult question about the possibility of keeping the balance between the
human rights and the power of bureaucracy, which will obtain absolute
centralization of power. The author doubts about the establishment of socialism
in simultaneity of the correlation of a planned format and individual
education.
Moving
on to passage B, there are three main shifts found in the overall text. The
shift in topic, from physics to economics, helps the application of the
academic concepts in physics in delivering personal opinion about economic
crisis. Moreover, the shifts in tone and syntax differentiate the atmosphere
and the purpose of the two passages. Einstein wisely shifts from one type to
another one to effectively show his views.
