During
Christmas seasons, it is not rare to see such a heart-warming scene of people
putting a few coins and bills into a red charity pot. Sharing the properties,
no matter how big that is, lights up the hearts of citizens who participate in
charity and the ones who receive the donations. The idea of being part of a
charity is a selfless action to help others out without receiving anything for
the act. However, this does not always happen in the reality, only being
idealistic.
Today,
schools run programs in order to help less fortunate people, make a brighter world,
and teach morality and selflessness. Teachers give extra credits to students
according to the numbers of their participations, or buy the most participating
class something to please them such as ice creams or cookies. They not just
participate because it is something morally right, but because of something
extra to be persuaded. Providing incentives works as an efficient way to
educate the youth to get used to practicing charitable acts, first making them
involved by being attracted to the incentives.
Even
international or domestic organizations involve all sorts of programs that serve
the same thing purpose, just to help those who are in need. A lot of famous and
big programs sometimes also provide some extra bonus to gain more support and
attention from the members. This exemplifies the thoughts of modern people who
are not completely generous and rather ask for extra incentives. The prior goal
of all kinds of charitable acts is to help others, but most people participate
only for the bonus they will save for helping out. There usually is always
something added to gain support. Most of the population is greedy enough to
need something to gain instead of just participating it only to increase the
wealth or life of another unknown person. Not every human in is selfless and compassionate just like Mother Teresa or Dorothea Dix. There would have been no person suffering from hunger or poverty in the world if those people were common. Frankly, it can be inferred that most of the people do not care about the sufferings of the underprivileged. Though lots of people who look at television shows and newspaper articles about unfortunate people and express a sense of concern, but in true means such a concern is nothing more than sanctimoniousness. For that reason, charitable organizations become like business and attract people though they intend to be morally upright. Such action is typically gruesome, in the terms that it discourages the moral obligation behind this cause, while on the other side it is also the most effective strategy.
